Fuller Lodge Workshop Series With Roberta Remy

FULLER LODGE News:

This Spring, the Art Center has a long list of classes for students of all ages. Many of the instructors have become a household name within the art community. We’d like to introduce another fantastic artist and teacher, award-winning artist Roberta Remy, whose work can be found in corporate and private collections throughout the US, Brazil and Europe.

Remy, who will be teaching an upcoming pastel course designed for adults and teens, attended Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League of New York. There she studied painting with master painters Frank Mason, George Passantino, David Leffel, and Sherrie McGraw, and drawing and anatomy with Robert Beverly Hale.

Formerly a New York-based illustrator whose clients included Macmillan Publishing, Playskool, Cabbage Patch Kids, and McDonalds, she now makes Santa Fe her home base, where she’s been expanding her teaching activities since 1995.

”When I fell in love with painting, it was the Old Masters and the American Impressionists who inspired my artistic search. Their traditions and techniques are the standards that I have set for myself. It’s my endless quest to learn how they accomplished their magic. With each work, I seek to deepen my understanding of the language of drawing…to explore the beautiful, mysterious and magical qualities of light…to paint it, and to capture its endless variations and effects…to bring to my paintings the illusion of sculptural form through the play of light upon the subject…to explore how atmosphere envelops the whole natural beauty of the subject…to give life to the work with a strong painterly quality.”

Roberta will be demonstrating her talent and sharing it with her students in the upcoming workshop, “Painting the Portrait or Still Life in Pastel” at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. Students will learn to use light and shading to form features of the face or object, focusing on facial anatomy and controlling edges. In addition, the class will learn about warm and cool temperature changes and values.

For still life, there will be a greater emphasis on proportion and composition. She will stress pastel techniques and guide her students on how to acquire the right supplies for the job. This class will take place Saturdays, March 10 – March 24 with a break March 31, and will resume April 7 – April 21. The six week course will be held at the Fuller Lodge Art Center, 2132 Central Ave., from 1-4 p.m. This class is $210 + a $9 model fee. Space is limited so we highly recommend signing up soon. You can do so by contacting FLAC at (505).662.1635. Help us welcome this new talent to the Los Alamos art education community!
