Four Small Fires Burning In Quemazon/Pipeline Trail Area

Smoke from one of four small fires burning in the Quemazon/Pipeline Trail area on Pajarito Mountain is visible at noon today from the Mountain View Condominiums on Trinity Drive. Los Alamos County Fire Chief Troy Hughes explained that the fires are most likely sparked by lightning from an overnight storm. He said the fires are not very large and don’t appear to pose a threat to the Ski Hill or Lodge. More details and photos from the scene will be published shortly. COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) and the U.S. Forest Service are on the scene and actively addressing four small fires spotted late this morning above the Quemazon/Pipeline Trail area of Los Alamos.

Two helicopters are dumping water on the fire and the fires are approximately one to two acres.

Individuals are asked to stay clear of Quemazon Trail, Pipeline Trail and the Los Alamos Reservoir:

  • Quemazon Trail is CLOSED to hikers at the entrance at 48th Street and Trinity Drive; and
  • Pipeline Trail is CLOSED to hikers at its entrance on Quemazon Road.

With helicopters busy taking water from Los Alamos Reservoir, LAFD asks that individuals avoid the reservoir for public safety.

Another update will be issued as soon as additional details are available. Winds in Los Alamos are light and rain storms are expected to build over the Valles Caldera early this afternoon, bringing showers to these areas.
