The community is invited to join David Abbey, former head of the New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee, at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, at the New Mexico History Museum for an author event and book signing for his new memoir, “Forty Years in the New Mexico Roundhouse”.

In Abbey’s new book, “Forty Years in the New Mexico Roundhouse,” he shares stories about his time as a finance and budget expert at the state capitol during the administrations of seven New Mexico governors, from Toney Anaya in 1983 to Michelle Lujan Grisham. He was known for his broad knowledge of New Mexico history and sought to find workable solutions in the face of partisan divides. Learn more about his experiences and work in the Roundhouse.

Abbey previously served as chief investment officer for the state treasurer, director of the state Board of Finance, and chief economist for the Department of Finance and Administration. Prior to state government service, Abbey worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Resources for the Future in Washington, D.C. Abbey graduated from Brown University in 1975 with a degree in economics.

Abbey’s new book offers a modern legislative and fiscal history of New Mexico and examines the reasons for the state’s relatively low social and economic conditions, while offering suggestions for the future.
