Calling all dogs and their humans … get ready for the first-ever Virtual Los Alamos Dog Jog!
Registration is open for the Virtual 2020 Los Alamos Dog Jog. Everyone who registers or donates will receive a 2020 Dog Jog t-shirt, which features a logo designed by Aspen fifth-grader Neal Sanders.
Registration is open at https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/friends-of-the-shelter-2020-virtual-dog-jog and will be open through 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Registration is $20 for adults and $5 for kids, with discounts for additional adult household members, so “bring” the whole family!
Coordinated by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, the Mountain Canine Corps, Pajarito K9 Search and Rescue and the Atomic City Roadrunners, the Dog Jog is a fundraising event for the Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals (FOSCA).
FOSCA is a non-profit organization that pays for hundreds of spay/neuter surgeries each year to reduce pet overpopulation in north central New Mexico. FOSCA also provides veterinary assistance funds for pet owners whose cat or dog has suffered a catastrophic illness or injury.
Despite that participants cannot get together at Rover Park and see more than 200 happy, excited dogs gather in one place, Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals still needs support. Throughout the pandemic, FOSCA is still helping dogs and cats with serious illnesses or injuries get the life-saving treatment that they need. Its essential spay/neuter program is still working with owners and rescues all over Northern New Mexico to reduce the critical pet overpopulation problem in our state to reduce pet homelessness and suffering.
In order to encourage people to register, FOSCA is holding a Zoom auction at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. Everyone who registers by the Sept.19 deadline will receive an email with a Zoom meeting link. Auction prizes will be worth $250 or more and bidding starts at $25 so prepare to have fun and get a great deal! Participants can join the Zoom meeting or email a bid to email@example.com. People do not have to be present to win and all prizes will be mailed or delivered to their door.
Once registered, participants are invited to participate in the Virtual Dog Jog (VDJ). To do this, simply choose a course – the regular White Rock course, a new North Mesa course, or pick one – and take a dog for a jog or a walk. Then simply send an email with the VDJ date and start time to firstname.lastname@example.org. FOSCA would love to get a picture of joggers and their dogs, but that is optional.
Do the VDJ between 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 and be eligible for one of the super VDJ prizes including gift cards from Pet Pangaea, The Running Hub and other local businesses. The prizes will be awarded by random drawing live on Zoom at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Participants do not have to be present to win and all prizes will be mailed or delivered to their door.
And don’t worry, if participants have already registered by mail or online, they will still receive a t-shirt, be able to jog or walk with their dog and eligible for prizes by sending an email to email@example.com.
FOSCA would like to thank its organizers, the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, Mountain Canine Corps, Pajarito K9 Search and Rescue and the Atomic City Roadrunners. The organization would also like to thank its sponsors, including Pet Pangaea, Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital, Blue Window Bistro, Animal Clinic of Los Alamos, Lou Santoro State Farm, Los Alamos DogHouse, and the many other sponsors and donors who make the event possible.
