Food Depot Welcomes Back Souper Bowl Benefit Event

The Food Depot News:

SANTA FE — Saturday, Jan. 28, The Food Depot welcomes the return of its Souper Bowl benefit event at the Santa Fe Convention Center.

Established in 1994, the benefit raises necessary funds to support hunger relief for nine counties in northern New Mexico and brings awareness to the issue of food insecurity. The Food Depot’s website offers tickets, $35 general admission, and $10 kids’ tickets (ages 6-12).

“We are so grateful to be back,” said The Food Depot’s Executive Director Sherry Hooper, now in her 21st year with the food bank. “Beyond hunger relief, this event is what we’re known for in the community. One of our board directors calls it the most wonderful day of the year. And it is! For us, food is love, and the opportunity to host this friendly competition between 19 restaurants brings people together in a festive environment.”

The Food Depot fosters healthy communities by engaging a network of partners and developing solutions for a hunger-free New Mexico.

“This event also provides our community with information about what we do at The Food Depot and our mission, which isn’t only about getting food to people, it’s also about moving the needle on food insecurity,” says Hooper. “For us to make a lasting difference, people need to know how their contributions—donations, volunteerism, and advocacy like supporting a higher living wage and learning about the FARM bill, for instance—all make an impact.”

The Food Depot’s Souper Bowl event opens at 11 a.m. for VIP ticket holders and noon for general admission. The event concludes at 2:30 p.m.
