Despite a pair of tough season for the Hilltopper boy’s and girl’s basketball teams, five athletes were named to the district 2-5A all district teams for the 2017-18 seasons.
On the girl’s side, sophomores Becca Green and Natalie Gallegos were named first team all district 2-5A athletes.
The Hilltopper girls’ basketball team open the 2017-18 season with a pair of strong wins, including a come-from-behind victory at Farmington who participated in the 2018 state tournament. The ‘Toppers finished the season with a 6-21 record. Season stats were not available for Green and Gallegos.
Michael Naranjo, Antonio Trujillo and Roman Roybal were named second team all district 2-5A athletes for the boy’s hoops team.
The trio each played in 26 games this season and each averaged double figure scoring. Naranjo averaged 10 points and seven rebounds a game. Roybal held an average of 10 points and three assists a game. Trujillo lead the ‘Toppers averaging 12 points and four assists a game.
Los Alamos started the season winning five of their first seven games of the season. The Hilltoppers faced a brutal schedule that included 12 teams that went on to play in the 2018 NMAA State tournament, including three games against the teams who participated in the championship game, Española Valley and Belen.
The ‘Toppers finished the season with a 9-18 record.
