Find It @ Your Library

The Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library have books in Chinese, Russian, Spanish and more … Visit the library’s foreign language collections, in print and online.

Whether you are learning a new language, keeping up with new releases in your native language or just enjoy honing your foreign language skills, Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library aim to please.

The libraries provide all patrons, including local readers, listeners and viewers, with materials in languages from around the world.

  • The foreign language book collection has hundreds of titles in both fiction and non fiction in nine languages: Chinese, Russian, Polish, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, and Korean.
  • The collections include books and other materials in a variety of formats-everything from foreign films on DVD to CDs and tapes for beginner to advanced language students; there are even e books and downloadable audiobooks in several different languages. Spanish speakers can access many popular Hispanic magazines, complete with images and full text, using the online database, Informe and the Chinese Daily News newspaper is available in print.
  • The children’s collections offer stories, beginning readers, non fiction titles, as well as language learning tapes and CDs in various languages.

All together, thousands of titles in an array of languages and formats are available. The best way to find materials in a particular language is by going to the online library catalog, http://library.losalamosnm.us and clicking the appropriate language under the ‘Popular Lists’ tab. Library staff members who are knowledgeable in particular languages choose titles for the collections and also welcome suggestions from patrons.

Lih-Jane Kao, library staff member in charge of Foreign Language Selection notes, “I especially appreciate getting suggestions from book groups so several members can provide a list that represents different topics and interests.”
