‘Fast for Families’ Calls for Immigration Reform

U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham

ALBUQUERQUE – In conjunction with the National “Fast for Families” in Washington, D.C., and echo fasts being held across the nation, Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico’s First Congressional District, faith leaders, local and state elected officials, workers and families impacted by the broken immigration system will fast in Albuquerque after Mass Sunday, Nov. 24.

The fast is being taken to draw attention to the moral crisis and suffering being caused by the broken immigration system.

Participants will fast, as able, in phases during a 48-hour period. While most families prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving later in the week, this fast will lament the many empty chairs at so many immigrant families’ own Thanksgiving tables because they’ve lost relatives to deportation.
