Family YMCA To Host Postpartum Recovery Workshop

YMCA News:

The postpartum period, or fourth trimester, is such a whirlwind of excitement, overwhelm, hormones, fatigue and getting to know your new little bundle of joy.

However, too often in our culture the mother is written off and expected to just “bounce back” after just having grown a human inside her body and then birthed that human, only to be told “take it easy for six weeks”.  Then to come to the six week postpartum “clearance” to be told “return to activity as usual” many times without even a pelvic exam.

The Postpartum Recovery workshop is an in depth masterclass of all the things Dr. Cassell wishes she knew before her first baby, and believes every woman should know so that they can avoid ever causing any of the issues listed above. The YMCA is partnering with Dr. Cassell to offer two different sessions, at 10 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 5 and 10 a.m. Saturday Dec. 9, so that moms have more opportunities to attend.  Only one session is necessary to attend and childwatch will be available for both. There is a registration fee of $50 for members and $75 for non-members and space is limited so REGISTER TODAY!

This 2 hr hands-on postpartum recovery workshop will address many aspects of postpartum recovery including (but not limited to):

  • Basic knowledge of the pelvic floor and core system
  • How to engage your core safely and correctly
  • How to listen to the boundaries of your body to exercise optimally
  • How and Why Breathing is the key to healing your core
  • The Exercise progressions/steps to move through as you return to activity
  • DRA screening
  • Pelvic Floor Screen (external)
  • Much more!

Once postpartum, always postpartum. It does not matter how old your child is 6 weeks or 6 yrs, your body will never be the exact same after birth and that is ok! We need to learn how to love and care for our new body by learning its boundaries and what it needs. Dr. Desiree Cassell is passionate about teaching other women in this postpartum period of their lives so that they can heal and restore their core before causing other issues, like she did with her first child (before she knew better). This is why she started her own private practice up here last year, The Balanced Momtality Womens Health and Wellness, where she not only treats postpartum women, but women through all stages of life, mom or not.
