The annual Family YMCA Independence Day Children’s Parade will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday July 4.

Youth should assemble for this free event at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot on the southeast corner of Central Avenue and 20th Street.

The parade offers youth an opportunity to show their patriotic colors. Participants are encouraged to decorate bikes, favorite toys and family members.

Pets will be allowed in the parade but children must be able to restrain and clean up after them. No two-wheeled bikes will be allowed.

The parade will head east down Central Avenue then north on 15th Street to the south end of the YMCA parking lot where American Legion members will perform a brief flag ceremony.

Afterward, hot dogs and watermelon will be provided at the American Legion, 1325 Trinity Dr.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the parade can sign up at the YMCA.

For more information, call the YMCA at 662-3100.
