Chartwells Food Services continues its mission of “eat. learn. live.” and is serving Thanksgiving lunches at all seven school sites throughout the district.
The difference is that when this lunch bell rings, they hope to include family members, too. Family members can use this opportunity like a “TBT-Throwback Thursday” and eat lunch in the cafeteria.
Mountain Elementary School kicked off the fun Thursday serving 500 lunches.
“Mountain had a great process for lunches, dividing them into four groups worked great,” Chef Mia Holsapple said. “It went amazingly well, we couldn’t be more pleased.”
The Chartwells crew are preparing turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetarian gravy, green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie to fill hearts and tempt taste buds on a very large scale.
The 2017 lunch opportunity fed approximately 1,700 students, staff and families and this year just over 2,000 are expected for the community meals. Families can make reservations at their individual schools or through Chartwells and arrange to pay that day or even use their student accounts to dine.
The cost for the luncheon is $4 for students and $5 for adults.
“My crew is working hard every day and during this week of being thankful, no one could be more thankful for school staff and volunteers,” Chef Holsapple said. “The beauty of this school district is that everyone comes together to pitch in and lend a hand.”
Holsapple references staff and parents who provide all of the extra hands to make the meal special. Those handy helpers include LAPS Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus, his senior staff, parent volunteers and more.
The lunch rush continues next week as dates for the second round of schools include:
- Aspen Elementary Nov. 13;
- Los Alamos Middle School Nov. 14;
- Los Alamos High School Nov. 14;
- Chamisa Elementary Nov. 15; and
- Pinon Elementary Nov 16.
