Fall Bible Conference Begins Tonight

Rev. Dr. Ian Hamilton

CHURCH News:

The Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church in White Rock will sponsor a Fall Bible Conference beginning at 7 p.m. today through Sunday, Oct. 2.

The Rev. Dr. Ian Hamilton is the guest speaker and his topic is “John Owen and Communion with God.”

The English Puritan theologian and Oxford academic, John Owen (1616-1683), believed that communion with God lies at the heart of the Christian life. With the Apostle Paul he recognized that through God the Son we have access by the God the Holy Spirit to the God the Father. He never lost the sense of amazement expressed by Apostle John: ‘Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ’.

Owen’s works, though thorough, erudite, and extensive, are, by the admission of many who have read him, difficult to grasp. Eminent modern theologian/pastors Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and Dr. James I. Packer comment respectively, ‘John Owen on the whole is difficult to read,’ and ‘There is no denying that Owen is heavy and hard to read.’ Dr. Hamilton will help us grasp the wonders of Owen’s Bible-based insights into a believer’s great privilege: intimate communion, relationship with the triune God.
