PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites the community to a special planetarium program, “The Vera Rubin Observatory: A Closer Look”, 7-8 p.m. (doors open at 6:45 p.m.), Friday, Jan. 16, at the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium.

This immersive program offers audiences ages 8 and up a rare opportunity to view the first images released by the Vera Rubin Observatory, projected in full dome format.

Located high in the Chilean Andes, the Rubin Observatory will soon begin a decade‑long survey using the largest camera ever built, capturing an ultra‑wide, ultra‑high‑definition time‑lapse of the universe. Its groundbreaking Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will transform our understanding of the cosmos from mapping billions of galaxies to tracking near‑Earth objects.

During this program, attendees will explore what sets the Rubin Observatory apart from previous sky surveys, learn how its unprecedented imaging capabilities work, and get a preview of the discoveries scientists expect in the coming years.
