PEEC News:
The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites bird enthusiasts of all skill levels to participate in a Bird Walk at Los Luceros Historic Site from 7–10 a.m. Sunday, August 3. This special outing coincides with Los Luceros’ “Dawn ’til Dusk Day” and offers an exceptional opportunity to experience one of New Mexico’s premier birding locations.
Led by seasoned local birders Mary Parsaca and Mary Orr, participants will explore the diverse habitats along the Rio Grande, including massive old-growth cottonwoods that support a rich variety of bird species. More than 150 species have been documented at Los Luceros, which was once nominated as an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA). The site is also celebrated for its scenic beauty and cultural significance.
Birders should bring binoculars, cameras (optional), water, and snacks. A limited number of binoculars will be available to lend. Space is limited to 15 participants, and advance registration is strongly recommended.
Attendees will meet promptly at the Los Luceros Historic Site.
Admission: Free | Registration required (limited to 15 participants). For more information, visit PEEC’s website at peecnature.org/events. Stay connected on social media for updates on each week’s activities.
