The effects of major wildfires such as those suffered in the Jemez mountains in recent years can be long-reaching and long-lasting.
Dr. Clifford Dahm, a professor in the Biology Department at the University of New Mexico and director of BioAnnex Analytical Laboratories, has been studying water resources in the state for nearly three decades.
At a PEEC program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, Dahm will discuss changes in stream water chemistry after the recent Las Conchas and Thompson Ridge fires in the Jemez Mountains. Dahm will also address the way water quality changes may affect aquatic biology.

Dahm is an expert in freshwater ecology, oceanography, and aquatic chemistry. He studies stream and river ecology, ground waters, the ways nutrients cycle through aquatic ecosystems, and riparian ecology. He also recently completed a four-year assignment as the lead scientist for the Delta Science Program in Sacramento, Calif. His Ph.D. in oceanography and aquatic ecology is from Oregon State University.
