This spring break, Visit Los Alamos encourages vacationers to think outside the box and opt for a spring ski getaway to the annual Skiesta celebration at Pajarito Mountain.

Skiesta is the culmination of Spring Break at Pajarito Mountain, Los Alamos’ ski hill, just 15 minutes from downtown Los Alamos. Pajarito will be open daily March 10-19, with rentals and lessons available for Spring Break skiers.

Skiesta will take place Saturday, March 18, and feature live music, refreshments from local craft brewers Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op and Boese Bros Brewing, plus costumes, and ski races. Ski events and racing will kick off in the morning, after registration, followed by music 2-5 p.m. from The Surf Lords. The Pajarito Mountain Café will be open noon to 4 p.m., serving up New Mexican dishes and specialty burgers.

“Skiesta is an iconic Los Alamos event brought to the mountain by the Los Alamos Ski Club in collaboration with the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. It showcases the unique charm and flair of our community,” said Kelly Stewart with Los Alamos County’s Economic Development Division. “From the vibrant and quirky costumes to New Mexico bands and beer, skiing contests, and exciting events for the entire family, it’s a full day of celebrating and letting loose. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginning skier, a day at Pajarito is always a day well spent, and a day at Skiesta is a day you won’t forget!”

While in town, visitors can embrace the culture of outdoor recreation by visiting one of the three National Parks that surround Los Alamos—Bandelier National Monument, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and Manhattan Project National Historical Park. Additionally, visitors can grab a sneak peek behind Oppenheimer–the movie, the man, the Manhattan Project–by taking a historic walking tour, visiting the free Bradbury Science Museum, the Manhattan Project National Historical Park visitor center or stopping by the Los Alamos History Museum.
