SFAS News:
This week is Pet Smart National Adoption Week, and Santa Fe Animal Shelter invites you to participate in some exciting opportunities.
Thursday through Sunday their mobile adoption unit will be available for site seeing at Pet Smart, located at 3561 Zafarano in Santa Fe. The 12-3 p.m. event will feature a variety of dogs and puppies available for adoption. Volunteers are happy to highlight their furry friends and tell potential adopters about each dog, and what they love about them.
If you need to see more or want to learn about a dog ahead of time, visit www.sfhumanesociety.org to see dogs of many sizes, breeds and ages.
You can also visit the shelter at 100 Caja del Rio with viewing hours from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Questions can also be directed to 505.983.4309.
This time of year, is known as puppy and kitten season and with 130 animals already at the shelter, spring easily lends itself to overpopulation in a brief period of time.
Spay, neuter, and vaccinations are available with services located at 2570-B Camino Entrada. Here, the Shelter offers low-cost spay and neuter programs with information available by calling 505.474.6422 .
The hours for services are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Surgeries are done Monday – Thursday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Foster families are incredibly helpful to avoid a boon in the number of residents at the shelter. Arrangements can be made for short or long-term fostering with information available on the website or by calling the adoptions office. To assist with the demands of such a rise in occupants, donations of puppy pee pads, kitten specific food or bottle-feeding supplies are always welcome. They could be dropped off at the shelter or donated at adoption events.
If on-line shopping is more your style, check out the Amazon Wish List, where items can be sent directly to the shelter. You can select items for their puppy and kitten supply drive throughout 2025 or dogs treats for volunteers that walk, play, and socialize dogs seven days a week.
A spring fundraiser is in full gear too, with many thanks to Liberty Ranch. Every donation to SFAS made through March 31 will be matched up to $25, 000. The website has also recently added the State of the Shelter, a 3-year sustainability roadmap to engage the community about this community gem.
