STARS News:

The 2nd Annual ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! is just around the corner, and tickets are selling quickly. Last year the event sold out. The organizing group, Los Alamos Rotary STARS, has just announced an exciting schedule of entertainment and activities for the event, which takes place 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Fuller Lodge. ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! promises to be a fun and magical evening for all ages again this year.

The schedule for the evening is as follows (subject to change):

  • 5 p.m. Doors open/Cash bar and dinner buffet open
  • 5-7 p.m. Live Mariachi music by Trio Los Amigos de New Mexico
  • Childrens activities
  • Silent auction open for bidding
  • Mercado Mexican market open for shopping
  • 7 p.m. Colorful dance performance by Danza Azteca de Anahuac
  • Childrens movie
  • 7:30 p.m. Live auction
  • 8-9 p.m. Salsa lessons and dancing
  • 9 p.m. Event closes

The ticket includes a gourmet Mexican dinner buffet catered by Blue Window Bistro, non-alcoholic drinks provided by Ruby Ks, live mariachi music, Aztec dance performances, silent and live auctions, and salsa dancing, all in the festive atmosphere of Fuller Lodge. The Blue Window Bistro also will provide a cash bar.

A slew of activities will keep the kids entertained, including a piñata, face painting, a cakewalk, and a movie. Members of the Rotary Interact, an active Rotary group of teens, will facilitate the childrens activities. Adults can participate in the wine walk, which was a popular feature at the event last year.

Perhaps the most popular offering last year, though, was the Mexican Mercado, which simulates a traditional Mexican market. Kids can purchase sombreros, maracas, and other traditional toys. This year, traditional Mexican blown glass and painted pottery pieces will also be available for purchase.

Tickets can be purchased at the event for $1 each or 6 for $5, which can be used for the cake walk, wine walk, Mercado and raffle.

Over $10,000 worth of prizes have been generously donated by local businesses and individuals for the silent and live auctions. Prizes include jewelry, artwork including a D.L. Lawrence “Images of Fine Light photograph, dining and entertainment certificates, spa services, portrait packages and more. Unique experiences including an airplane scenic fall tour, a wine tour, and a special Brew with the Brewer at Bathtub Row Brewing also will be auctioned off. To round out the prizes, a stay-and-golf package at Buffalo Thunder Resort and a 3-night say in Las Vegas will be auctioned.

The event is a fundraiser of the Los Alamos Rotary STARS, a group of motivated Rotarians who are determined to fit community and international service into their busy lifestyles, while at the same time having FUN! STARS supports various service projects in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as well as in Los Alamos. STARS is a satellite of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos.

Tickets to the event are $40 in advance/$50 at the door for adults, $20/$25 for teens 13-17, and children 12 and under are free. They can be purchased online at www.FiestaLA.eventbrite.com, at the Blue Window Bistro or by emailing laura.loy@usa.net.
