ROTARY News:

What goes better with a night of fine wine and opera, than gourmet cheese, fruit and chocolate?

The Los Alamos Rotary STARS (Service to All Rotary Satellite) will participate in Saturday’s Opera on the Rocks at Bandelier for a second year, where they will provide gourmet cheese plates for donations. Opera on the Rocks, Bandelier’s signature event, will take place at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 20. Don Quixote Distillery & Winery and Black Mesa Winery will offer local wines. Mozart’s Don Giovanni will be performed.

Due to limitations with parking and to support keeping the area quiet and without car lights, Atomic City Transit will provide transportation to and from the event. Shuttles will pick-up at Sullivan Field in Los Alamos and at the White Rock Visitors Center, beginning at 4 p.m. at both locations.

Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder, Smith’s Marketplace and Casa de Luz Apartments have all generously donated to the cause, so that 100 percent of the money raised by STARS Saturday will go toward local and international service projects.

“We are working on some exciting projects,” said STARS member Laura Loy, “and the money raised by providing cheese plates at Saturday’s Opera on the Rocks will allow us to do even more to help out near home and abroad.”

Loy added that funds raised Saturday will support STARS’ work with Los Alamos youth, a project in conjunction with the Teen Center and the new Nature Center, as well as a joint international project with other Rotary clubs called Corazón de Niños.

The Los Alamos Rotary STARS is a group of motivated Rotarians who are determined to fit community and international service into their busy lifestyles, while at the same time having FUN!
