NMDCA News:

The Wonders on Wheels mobile museum program brings their Culture Lab exhibit “Enchanted Chiles” to the New Mexico History Museum, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7.

In honor of New Mexico History Museum’s food exhibit, “Forks in the Road,” the Wonders on Wheels program presents a pop-up exhibit about the culture and science of New Mexico’s favorite fruit, the chile pepper. Join museum educator Jennifer Hasty for an exploration of the taste, heat, history, and magic of New Mexico chiles. Visitors will learn about how and where chiles are grown in the state, how they are harvested, what makes them spicy, and more. This hands-on exhibit includes microscopes for close-up chile examination, chile-dye painting, and instructions on creating a chile ristra. The exhibit and activities are included with museum admission. Admission is free to New Mexico residents on the first Sunday and to children 16 and younger.

Wonders on Wheels and New Mexico History Museum are both divisions of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Together they are collaborating to bring the history and culture of New Mexico’s food and agricultural heritage to the public in a fun, educational way.
