Elizabeth Meek
LAPS News:
Los Alamos Public Schools announced that Elizabeth Meek has been selected as the new principal at Chamisa Elementary School. She will be taking over for Craig Washnok who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Meek has been the assistant principal at Chamisa Elementary for the past two years. Prior to coming to Chamisa, she worked as the LAPS assistant director of Student Services.
“I am excited to become the new principal,” she said. “I have enjoyed the last two years as the assistant principal of Chamisa and appreciate the spirit of community that is evident through everything that Chamisa does and is. Chamisa’s students, families, staff and neighborhood community are inclusive, welcoming and a joy to partner with.”
“It is an honor to have Mrs. Meek as the principal at Chamisa. She is an experienced leader who brings a great deal of talent to the role,” Superintendent Jennifer Guy said. “Most importantly, she loves students and the Chamisa community.”
Mrs. Meek has bachelor’s degrees in Music and Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of New Mexico. She earned a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from UNM and holds an Instructional Leader Certificate through the state of New Mexico.
Her career has included work in public schools supporting preschool through master’s level students in Colorado, Oregon and New Mexico. She has served as a speech language pathologist, special education contact person, school administrator and clinical instructor of students completing their master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Meek believes in the opportunities that public education affords all children. “My goal is to support acquisition of skills, access to resources and meaningful connections for all students so that they are able to reach their potential and experience increased opportunities throughout their lives,” she said.
She places importance on all students recognizing their promise and that each knows they hold value. Her philosophy aligns with the LAPS strategic plan of supporting 100% of students with achieving academic excellence, social-emotional well-being, and civic responsibility.
Mrs. Meek is a native New Mexican. She enjoys reading, playing card and board games, music, gardening and spending time outside. She most enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, dogs, extended family and friends.
