NMDCA News:
El Palacio magazine’s spring edition will be published March 1 with an accompanying panel reading session and Q&A slated for March 9.
“This issue of El Palacio is teeming with animals and the more-than-human,” El Palacio Editor Emily Withnall said. “Whether reading Tamara Enz’s article about ancient life billions of years ago in New Mexico, diving into the long, rich history between the Diné and Navajo-Churro sheep, or learning about the oryx which live at White Sands in Marcus Chormicle’s photo essay, there is much we can learn when we take time to reflect on Earth’s vast geologic history and our relationships to the living beings around us.”
At 4:30 p.m., March 9, the public is invited to a panel reading featuring a few of this edition’s contributors, including Harrison Candelaria Fletcher (the loss of his father and the menagerie of animals he grew up with), Tamara Enz (life before dinosaurs in New Mexico), Rebecca Ward and Rebekha Crockett (origin of Navajo-Churro sheep and their place at Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site and Los Luceros Historic Site). After the readings, Withnall will lead a question-and-answer session, giving attendees a chance to interact directly with the authors. The reading will take place at Collected Works Bookstore, 202 Galisteo Street, Santa Fe, NM, and light refreshments will be served. Copies of the magazine will be available to buy. Visit CollectedWorksBookstore.com/Events to register for the livestream on Zoom.
