Early Voting Begins Saturday!

By Carol A. Clark

Voting early begins from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at both the Los Alamos Community Building, 475 20th St. and the White Rock Fire Station #3, 129 N.M.4.

Early voting will continue at both locations 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the following Tuesday, May 22 through Saturday, May 26 and Tuesday, May 29 through Saturday, June 2.

Also, Election Day has never been easier with Voting Convenience Centers (VCC) that will scattered throughout Los Alamos County.

VCC’s are Election Day polling locations available to any registered voter of Los Alamos County regardless of their designated precinct.

These convenient locations provide voters more flexibility on Election Day since they are not constrained to any specific polling location.

There will be numerous voting stations and voting machine tabulators to accommodate the Election Day voters of the County.

“The Primary Election is open to registered Democrats and Republicans in Los Alamos County,” Elections Manager Gloria Maestas said. “The Clerk’s Office is excited to introduce the Voting Convenience Centers to the community – our goal is to make it more conventient for the voters.”

Maestas said as of 1 p.m. today, just 52 absentee in person votes have been cast.

“We really want to encourage all registered voters in our County to get out and vote,” she said.

Maestas explained that the VCC’s are networked to the Voter System and the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office. She said that after careful consideration by the County, the following locations were chosen for accessibility, availability and centralized locations for the 2012-2013 Election Cycle:

  • Los Alamos Community Building, 475 20th St.
  • White Rock Fire Station 3, 129 N.M.4
  • Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr. (Kelly Hall)
  • VCC’s will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Primary Election Day – Tuesday June 5, and General Election Day – Tuesday Nov. 6.

In addition to Early voting and voting on Election Day – voting In Person, Absentee, or by Mail at the Clerk’s Office will still be in effect.
