Duplicate Bridge In Los Alamos: Feb. 3, 2025

Bridge News:

Here is a very interesting hand from our Education Foundation Game Feb. 3.

This is board #12. West is the dealer, and N/S are vulnerable.

Distributional hands can create a lot of action, as is the case here. West should open the bidding with 1♣. North has a sound overcall of 1. Assuming East now bids 2♦, there is an excellent chance that East/West will ultimately play in 5 or 6 diamonds. Both 6♣ and 6♦ are laydown slams, as the cards lie. Unless South comes up with a spade lead (unlikely), declarer will make 7!

When this hand was played locally, one pair played in 3♣ making 6, another pair played in 4 making 6, two pairs played in 5 making six, only one pair played in 6 making 7, and the 6th pair played in 3 by North doubled down 4! Wow!

Next week’s games are local Sectional Tournament at Clubs (STaC} games. This is an opportunity for local players to win special points.

The Los Alamos Duplicate Bridge Club games are held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesdays, at the Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center (BESAC) and 12:45 p.m., Mondays, at the White Rock Senior Activity Center (WRSAC). Duplicate lessons are given 10 a.m. until noon Friday at the BESAC when BESAC is open. Bridge players are welcome to participate.
