Diamond Pavement Rehabilitation Project Starts July 22

COUNTY News:

Crews with Star Paving Company are scheduled to begin work Monday, July 22 on Diamond Drive from Omega Bridge to San Ildefonso Road.

Work involves milling or removing 2 inches of the existing asphalt surface and inlaying a new pavement.

The project area is divided into two segments:

The first is between Omega Bridge to Sandia Drive/Orange Street. This work is scheduled to be substantially complete by Aug. 14 prior to the start of the school year. If time allows, crews may elect to mill and repave the roundabout at San Ildefonso before Aug. 14. This will require the use of flaggers to direct traffic and result in some delays.

The second segment of work is between Sandia/Orange Street intersection and continues north to the Roundabout at San Ildefonso Road. The entire project is scheduled for completion by Sept. 27, weather permitting.

Four lanes of travel, two in each direction, shall be maintained during weekday morning and evening rush hour traffic to accommodate commute times. Two lanes of travel, one in each direction, shall be maintained on Diamond Drive during working hours.

Pedestrians detours will be in place and bike lanes will be closed on Diamond Drive within the work zones. Bicyclists and motorists are asked to share the road.

Night and weekend work is anticipated. Crews will be on site 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 6 p.m. to approximately 2 a.m. nightly.

Access to residents as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, transit services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.
