DNCU News:
Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU) is sponsoring a free Resume Writing Workshop 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at projectY cowork Los Alamos, 150 Central Park Square.
This is an opportunity for students and others to learn from Los Alamos High School (LAHS) alumnus Nate Delgado (‘16) about how to write a resume that both highlights successes and captures future employers’ attention.
Consisting of a lecture, discussion, and hands-on activities, the workshop is intended to help young professionals at the early stages of their careers and those who find their resume ineffective or confusing. Attendees are encouraged to bring their current resume and job history information.
“I built a lot of confidence from Nate’s workshop last year,” said LAHS student Emma Frost, co-founder of the school’s Business Club. “I picked up tips ranging from resume formatting to strengthening my responses in interviews by turning them into compelling stories. I feel more prepared than ever before for my professional and financial future.”
In addition to developing a resume as a living document, attendees will receive guidance on how to prepare for the Spring Job Fair to be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, hosted at UNM-LA and sponsored by the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, TechSource and Del Norte Credit Union.
“The importance of a strong resume in today’s job market cannot be overstated,” said projectY cowork Membership and Program Manager Alice Holtzclaw. “But many people have either never learned how to write one or have neglected it over the years. This is the perfect chance to re-evaluate a resume and how a prospective employee can present their best skills and experiences.”
Delgado, working today as a D.C.-based cybersecurity professional, taught last year’s Forget Algebra Workshop, which focused on professional development and financial literacy for high school students. While in town this year, he also will be speaking with Pojoaque students Friday, Feb. 24 and at Española Public Schools Monday, Feb. 27.
This program series aligns with the mission of workshop sponsors DNCU and the Del Norte LOV Foundation, an independent foundation associated with DNCU, to improve lives of youth and families in New Mexico and better equip kids, teens and young adults with tools and resources to enhance their financial literacy and related topics. In addition to engaging with Delgado, DNCU and the LOV Foundation have partnered with a platform called Banzai, which presents clear and relatable financial literacy and financial planning lessons for students, entrepreneurs and others.
The Banzai content uses real-life scenarios to demonstrate the power of good financial planning. For more information on Banzai, visit this link.
