LALT News:
Regardless of what life throws at us, it usually feels better to laugh about it.
With that in mind, David Zimmerman will present what he calls “The Lighter Side of MS: A Comedic Take on Diminishing Capabilities” at 1 p.m. Thursday in the classroom at the Los Alamos Senior Activity Center.
He will also present the same show at 1 p.m. Friday in the studio at the White Rock Senior Activity Center.
Admittance is free. There will be a talk-back session after each performance.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve cells. It can lead to muscle weakness and coordination issues, as well as a host of other symptoms.
Zimmermann has been doing comedy for about three and a half years with shows in Santa Fe, including last year’s Cloudtop Comedy Festival. Zimmermann’s also the founder of AtomiComedy, Los Alamos’s comedy group, that has put on shows at Muy Salsas and Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT).
Zimmermann has been in Los Alamos for four and a half years and is a software engineer at LANSCE. Before that, he lived in Oregon for 20 years, where he was a software engineer at IBM.
All are welcome to attend this performance, a departure from senior centers’ usual short-play readings, for fun, evocative live entertainment.
The shows are presented by LALT in partnership with the Los Alamos Senior Activity Centers. The partnership has brought many plays to the community over the years, primarily thanks to playwright Robert Benjamin and actor/director Pat Beck. Their dedication continues to bring live theater in enjoyable snippets every few months to Los Alamos’s older adult community.
In addition to entertainment, the short-play readings include talk-back sessions, which are intended to spark conversation about issues of interest to seniors and general audiences. All are welcome, regardless of age, at these free performances.
Later this summer, check out more live theater when LALT presents Shakespeare in the park — more specifically, “Julius Caesar” behind the Hans Bethe house on Bathtub Row. Performances will be at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, Aug. 7 and 14, and Saturdays, Aug. 9 and 16. There will be two matinees: at 2 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 10 and 17. The Aug. 10 matinee will be a special performance at the Los Alamos Senior Activity Center. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish. More information will be forthcoming on social media and at lalt.org.
