Jemez Springs Public Library News:
JEMEZ SPRINGS — Daniela Naomi Molnar will give a reading from the recently published work “Chorus” at the Jemez Springs Public Library (the Village Gazebo) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday Sept. 9.
Molner also will discuss other projects worked on while in residence. She was in residence from Oct. 15 through Nov. 15, 2020. Molnar used this time during the pandemic at Mission Street Arts to work on the book “Chorus”.
While in residence this time around she will continue to work on existing projects and create some new paintings.
These projects include:
- The New Earth Series. This project was recently the topic of a frontpage feature in the Los Angeles Times www.latimes.com. This series envisions how climate change is reshaping our planet and our embodied experience of it. The shapes in the paintings map newly exposed ground near glaciers. Molnar will be interviewing residents about their experiences and the consequences of climate change in Jemez Springs.
- The Topography of Water/WEB Series. The special relationship of Jemez Springs to water will no doubt have a strong impact on this series, which explores local pigments and materials, using the waters, rocks, and plants of a particular place to meditate on the ever- changing nature of riparian systems and oceanic systems.
Molnar has her Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry (pending), from Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa, North Carolina. She graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz, CA with a Graduate Certificate in Scientific Illustration and has a BA in Environmental Studies and Art, from The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA. She continues her studies at the School of Visual Arts (NY) and Pratt Institute (NY).
Mission Street Arts exists to further the artistic vision of resident artists and the community by providing studio space in a scenic and supportive environment. MSA welcomes artists working in diverse fields including stone-carving, sculpture, painting, drawing, performance, printmaking, textile arts, and writing, and encourages community involvement through workshops, studio visits, and exhibits.
This project is supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support provided by Friends of the Jemez Springs Public Library.
