Los Alamos School of Gymnastics wrapped up its Junior Olympic Boy’s Competitive season last weekend with the New Mexico Junior Olympic State Championships.
Daniel Fryer was Los Alamos’ only representative at the state meet, but he represented Los Alamos and LASG well. He won the senior men’s Level 5 Junior Olympic division, taking gold with an all-around score of 58.85, qualifying him to the Region 9 championships in Utah this April. He was solidly in first at 1.55 above the second place finisher!
Fryer wasn’t just golden in the all-around. He spent time on the top of the podium, taking gold in four of the six men’s events: floor, vault, parallel bars and high bar. He received bronze in the other two events.
He netted more than 10.00 in five events by completing the bonus moves that can be added to the routines in men’s gymnastics. He scored a 10.30 in parallel bars, a 10.15 on both high bar and rings, a 10.05 on the floor exercise and a 10.00 on the vault. He scored an 8.20 after a fall on pommel horse.
Fryer had the support of team mates in his quest. Other LASG level 5 gymnasts to travel this season included Dane Harris and Caden Stilwell, both of Barranca Elementary School.
The level 4 boys travel team included Troy Makela of Barranca Elementary and Marek Jablonski of Mountain Elementary. Fryer attends Mountain Elementary. The LASG boys team is coached by former LASG competitor (1998-2002) Nathan Reass.
