SANTA FE — The New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (NMCDLA) is proud to announce that Dan Cron has been awarded the prestigious Driscoll Award, recognizing a career marked by extraordinary dedication, advocacy, and excellence in the field of criminal defense. The award presentation will be made on June 13 at the State Bar Center in Albuquerque.
The Driscoll Award is NMCDLA’s highest honor, named in memory of the late Charles Driscoll, a revered New Mexico criminal defense attorney known for his unyielding commitment to justice, fairness, and the rights of the accused. The award has been given annually since 1992 to an individual who embodies the spirit of service, courage, and professionalism that defined Driscoll’s legacy.
Dan Cron came to Santa Fe in 1980 to monitor the federal court order that was placed over the Penitentiary of New Mexico following the prison riot. He gained national prominence for his work in exposing the deficiencies of the New Mexico prison system. He entered private practice in Santa Fe in 1982. Dan is known for his relentless hard work, zealous representation, and compassion for his clients. Dan resides in Santa Fe, where he runs a private practice focused on criminal law, national security clearances, professional licensure, and CYFD cases.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Driscoll Award. This recognition is shared with the mentors, colleagues, and clients who have taught me what it truly means to serve,” Cron said. Last year’s winner, Ahmad Assed, an expert in national and international law, praised the committee’s selection.
“Dan represents the best of our profession — fierce in the courtroom, compassionate with clients, and tireless in the pursuit of justice. This award is a testament to a career spent fighting for those whose voices too often go unheard,” Assed noted.
