Daily Postcard: A Northern Flicker eating berries recently at Overlook Park in White Rock. Northern Flickers are large woodpeckers that live year-round in much of the US. In fact, they are among the most commonly seen woodpeckers in northern New Mexico. According to ‘All About Birds’ they generally nest in holes in trees. They mainly eat ants and beetles, for which you can see them digging on the ground. However, they can also be seen eating berries, as this Flicker was doing at Overlook Park. Photo by Richard Skolnik
