Daily Postcard: Firewheel Flower Blooms In Water Canyon

Daily Postcard: A brilliant firewheel flower spotted peeking out of the shadows Wednesday during a hike in Water Canyon. Firewheel flowers (Gaillardia pulchella), bloom profusely from early spring to late fall. It is a native self-seeding annual, popular with pollinating insects. At times, a single flower can be seen with two or more honeybees foraging enthusiastically. Butterflies, bumblebees and native bees also spend much time among firewheel flowers, one of the most planted wildflowers in North America. Source: naturesseed.com. Photo by Marc Bailey
