Daily Postcard: Cassin’s Finch Strikes Regal Pose

Daily Postcard: This Cassin’s finch posed last week on a tree at the back of the water treatment plant in White Rock. These finches are characterized by their peaked head and thick, straight-edged bill. They live in forests of evergreens and quaking aspens in the mountains of western North America. One especially interesting fact about these birds is that they crave salt and can often be found visiting mineral deposits on the ground. You can see All About Birds for more information about the Cassin’s Finch. Photo by Richard Skolnik
