Daily Postcard: Birdbill Dayflower Blooms After Monsoons

Daily Postcard: Birdbill Dayflower (also known as Commelina dianthifolia) blooms were spotted recently after a monsoon rain. These flowers were bloomimg at the Mitchell Trail parking lot, and after a hike up to the water tank service road, which continues as another trail well-used by hikers and bikers, were found on either side of the trail. This trail bends around to the south along the north side of LA Mountain (also known as Burnt or Reburnt Mountain), with a spur leading to the top. The main trail then joins up with the Perimeter Trail. This ‘popular’ trail does not appear on local maps and has no formal name. The local resident who spotted the flowers calls it ‘Burnt Mountain Trail’. Photo by Laurie Waters
