Staff report

Sunday, Sept. 9, Cyndi Wells of Los Alamos will compete in the Ironman in Madison, Wis. ( The race will likely take her more than 15 hours to finish, she said.

Wells explained that it has been a hard summer with the loss of her beloved dog, Hana Dog, and too much work at her store, Pet Pangaea, to train properly.

“In remembrance of our former CCO Hana Dog, some great friends of Pet Pangaea are donating to Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter to help keep me motivated,” Wells said. “So far, the pledges total $1.85 per mile … that is awesome … I caught a cold this week that I am still fighting. Why make an Ironman easy, anyway? I’ll earn those dollars for the animals in need! On race day, you can track me at I’m bib number 804. Slow and stubborn.”

Pledges can be made at the post pinned to the top of the Pet Pangaea LLC Facebook page.

“This support will help me to keep going if I know that each mile helps the animals,” Wells said. “The Ironman is a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a full marathon run (26.2 miles). So, what do you say? How many cents per mile for FOS can we turn this into?”
