This week divine desserts from local and regional businesses are coming together to support, Life is Short, Eat Dessert First. The Champions of Youth Ambition’s (C’YA) fundraiser will support a variety of programs from mail for military troops and veterans to elementary science education and the Community Asset Awards, which kicks off Nov. 1.
The commUNITY partners for the grab and go event include the following: Pig & Fig, The Blue Window Bistro, The Enchanted Jammery, NM Cookie Corner, Hungry Bear/The Coffee Cub (coming to White Rock in October), Trader Joe’s, Jemez Mountain Brittle and Smith’s in White Rock.
An evening of delicious delights takes place 6-8 p.m. this Saturday with the help of a kitchen from the United Church of Los Alamos.
Bryan Benett can normally be found weekly at our Farmer’s Market. His peanut brittle business is a one-man show, but he’s not too busy to give back to the community. His personal favorite is the Peanut Green Chili, while his best seller is, easily, Pistachio Green Chili, this is New Mexico, after all. You’ll have to wait and find out on Saturday what he has in store for C’YA.
Have you had a Bearrito or Bearrito Bowl from the Hungry Bear Food Truck at 118 State Road 4 in White Rock yet? Well not only are they serving breakfast goodies to satisfy the hungry bear in you, but they will soon add baked goods to the party. Donut Blueberry Muffins are the works for the eat Dessert First event, but there’s more!
Leah from The Hungry Bear is allowing us to share that the bear has had a cub, a “coffee cub” to be precise. The Coffee Cub is opening right next to their Hungry Bear food truck in October.
“We sincerely enjoy feeding our friends and neighbors in White Rock and Los Alamos,” Leah said. “No day is short of kindness or smiles!”
The additional divine delights contributors are keeping their items top secret for now, but C’YA hopes to unveil more throughout the week. They promise to keep the C’YA Facebook page and the Keep It Local Facebook page up to date, to keep tongues wagging. If you don’t do social media, just call, text or email them for more details.
The eco-friendly, 100 percent compostable grab and go boxes are $15 each or 2 for $25. The non-profit assures patrons that a minimum of three desserts will be included in each box with the possibility of more. A plan is in the works to allow shoppers to select their favorite choice from available items to be included in their purchase.
C’YA is available by call or text at 505.695.9139 or via email at cya.org@att.net.
