Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) has two public areas at which they perform trash cleanup throughout the year. The first is Overlook Park in White Road—part of the Adopt-A-Road program with Los Alamos County.
The second, C’YA’s new acquisition, is a state program called Adopt-A-Highway. C’YA, with the help of volunteer Chandler Lauritzen, officially cleaned the area from mile marker 2 to mile marker 3. This stretch of highway is the first half past the Los Alamos County Airport. While their sign didn’t arrive in time for the big day, it is scheduled to arrive soon.
Volunteers make a fun game out of the process—this year, the winning find was at Overlook Park. One of several diapers hurled out of a vehicle window was found hanging from a tree, much like an ornament at Christmas time.
