Ruby K’s Bagel Café has been a part of Beth Bowman’s routine for the past seven years. Every Wednesday, after working out with friends, they all go to Ruby K’s for bagels.

She has recently joined the staff as a baker.

Bowman, along with Katherine Johnson (another Ruby K’s employee), is test baking to come up with a new line of cupcakes.

They initially plan to introduce several basic flavors.

“The flavors will evolve,” Bowman said.

Johnson, who is earning her culinary arts degree at BYU Idaho, started working at Ruby K’s last summer, where she baked muffins and bagels.

This is her first time making cupcakes in a commercial setting.

Bowman has 30 years experience in baking and cake decorating. Not only does she have experience in her home kitchen, but she also has decorated cakes for Baskin Robbins and Morning Glory Bakery.

She has made hundreds of personalized birthday and wedding cakes and has mastered both butter crème and fondant icings.

Bowman has experience making specialty shaped cakes (spaceships, dolls, trains, hockey-themed, racecars and more.) She also enjoys making ginger bread houses and leads the annual ginger bread house-making workshop at Family Strengths Network.

Ruby K’s will start serving cupcakes in the next couple of weeks. During the next few months, they will be making several changes in the layout of the store and in their menu. Visit Ruby K’s Facebook page to receive updates.
