LAPS News:

Los Alamos High School Principal Dr. Debbie Belew-Nyquist and LAPS Superintendent Gene Schmidt were interviewed by Croatia News Reporter Branka Slavica ahead of last Sunday’s Presidential Inauguration of Croatia President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. President Grabar-Kitarovic was a Los Alamos High School Graduate in the mid-1980s.

Croatia’s first ever female president is remembered by teachers as a very enthusiastic high school student, who earned exceptionally good grades. Dorothy Wilson, in particular, recalled with fondness how impressed she was with the essays written by this student from Yugoslavia (now Croatia).

Other teachers remembered how proud Grabar-Kitarovic was of her country. She never missed an opportunity to talk with students about her love for her country. She enjoyed learning recreational and lifetime sports during her stay in Los Alamos.

Belew-Nyquist and Schmidt congratulated Grabar-Kitarovic during the interview and sent an invitation for her to return to Los Alamos and meet with the high school students and staff.

The interview was scheduled for Croatian television last Sunday morning.
