NMDCA News:
Two workshops presented by the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) at Los Luceros Historic Site will teach people time-honored techniques for creating pastel sticks, as well as how to use them to make art.
Creating traditional pastel sticks as used for centuries in the southwest is a rewarding process that allows you to craft personalized art materials tailored to your artistic needs. In the first class from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, students will learn how to create pastel sticks with materials provided.
During the second workshop from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, students will learn the art of drawing with the pastel sticks that were made.
Registration for each workshop is $50 per person to help support Los Luceros Historic Site. Register online for the pastel stick-making workshop and for the pastel drawing workshop. For more information contact Gabriela Silva from NRGNHA at 505.692.3086.
These workshops celebrate New Mexico’s unique cultural and natural heritage and offer an opportunity to learn artforms that combine personal craftsmanship with creative expression.
