LARSO News:

Some may wonder why this information hasn’t come out sooner, but times are changing, often daily at the local senior centers.

Good news has finally arrived in the form of COVID Omicron booster shots and 65 and over flu vaccines.

The Aging and Long-Term Services Department has provided two opportunities to receive one or both, at the Los Alamos and White Rock senior centers at no cost – but insurance cards are required.

These vaccine clinics are in-person and indoors, compared to previous events hosted by the centers. Pharmacist Uri Bassan will lead the clinics, the first Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center and the second Thursday, Oct. 13 at the White Rock Senior Center.

“These two clinics have a special twist,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “The appointments from 9 a.m. to noon on both days will be ONLY for those age 50 and up, in an attempt to ensure we are serving our community elders.”

Lauritzen brought the idea to Aging Network Division Director Denise King of the Aging and Long-Term Services Department.

“I asked if we could schedule our own appointments, and she agreed, now it’s time to get them filled up,” Lauritzen said.

The appointments are ONLY available by calling 505.662.8920. If you get a voicemail, leave your name and phone number, you will be called back as soon as possible. You may not email in or request it through additional employees. The process requires answering certain questions and having your confirmation code or the patient number off your COVID card, if it is available.
