LAPD Officers In High Speed Chase

Los Alamos Police Officers were involved in a high speed pursuit Thursday afternoon, which ended in a Colorado man being apprehended in Nambe. Carl Johann Black, 37, of Colorado Springs faces several charges in connection with the chase.

It began around 1:45 p.m. when LAPD Dispatch notified Cpl. David Boe of a possible reckless driver in a silver mini-van traveling along Diamond Drive toward  the mesas. LAFD Ends Stage 1 Fire Restrictions At Noon Today

Fortunately, recent precipitation and milder temperatures have produced a decrease in the fire danger for Los Alamos County. The Los Alamos County Fire Department (LAFD) will lift Stage 1 restrictions today at noon.

The previous fire restrictions were based on dry conditions and higher-than-normal temperatures. Several criteria are utilized to determine when to impose or lift fire restrictions, which include current and predicted weather, fuel moisture, fire activity levels and available firefighting resources. In support of new tourism initiatives surrounding promotion of Los Alamos as the home of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, Los Alamos County has installed free WiFi for the public to use at Ashley Pond Park and nearby Fuller Lodge, including the eastern Fuller Lodge Lawn, and the Library overflow lot (used Thursdays by Farmer’s Market). With its cascading waterfall, flowering plants and swimming ducks; Ashley Pond is a picture-perfect postcard of serenity.
