COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County has published the Budget Agenda and a Budget Options document. Interested citizens may access the document from the County’s website on the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) webpage using this link: https:////www.losalamosnm.us/omb/Pages/BudgetsandReports.aspx
The Budget Options document includes a list of items that Council requested that could be considered for additions to the proposed budget, should the Council choose to take action after reviewing the initial budget, which met the goal of “no increases” for FY17. The Budget Options document also contains supplemental information that the Council requested.
Reference copies are also available at both public libraries and the 311 Customer Care Center (Municipal Building lobby).
As a reminder, the budget was published on March 31 and available for public review. A “Citizen’s Guide to the Budget” summarizes the budget in an easy-to-read format and is available to download from the OMB webpage link listed above. Copies of the Citizen’s Guide are also available at the libraries and in the public literature rack located in the west vestibule of the Municipal Building.
Budget hearings are set for April 18, 19, 25 and 26. All hearings begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Until the Council adopts the budget, it is still open for discussion and change. Council will reserve the first 30 minutes of each hearing for public comment on any portion of the proposed budget. Once all comments have been provided, or, after this time has expired, budget presentations and discussions will continue.
Citizens unable to attend the budget hearings can still comment in a variety of ways:
- Send U.S. Mail to County Manager Harry Burgess, 1000 Central Ave., Ste. 350, Los Alamos, NM 87544
- Email comments to lacbudget@lacnm.us
- Email comments directly to the County Council: countycouncil@lacnm.us
Citizens can view the budget hearings live using internet streaming under the “County Council” link on the County’s webpage:

If budget hearings need to be extended, the dates of May 2 and 3 have been set as placeholders.
