COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Council proclaimed July as “Parks and Recreation Month” during its regular meeting Tuesday in Council Chambers. Council Vice Chair Christine Chandler presented the proclamation to staff in the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Offices of the Community Services Department staff on behalf of the Council.

Proclamation:

WHEREAS: Parks and Recreation programs are an integral part of communities across the country, and Los Alamos County has many outstanding offerings; and

WHEREAS: Our Parks and Recreation are important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our communities, enabling healthy lifestyles among our citizens, and contributing to our economic and environmental vitality; and

WHEREAS: The Council has adopted community goals related to Parks and Recreation programs, services and amenities; these kinds of activities are essential not only for quality of life options for residents, but attract tourists and entice new residents and businesses who may wish to move here; and

WHEREAS: Parks and open spaces have benefits that may not be visible, but that are valuable: for example, they can protect groundwater and provide vegetative buffers to development, along with providing habitat for wildlife; and

WHEREAS: Our parks, trails and open spaces bring us natural, engaging places for children and adults to connect with nature and the great outdoors, and we must value, respect, and protect these resources; and

WHEREAS: When we take time to appreciate our surroundings and denote special activities celebrating them, we reinforce our values within our community and show visitors that we are proud to call Los Alamos “home”;

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim the Month of July 2018 as “Parks and Recreation Month” in Los Alamos County, and ask our citizens to get outside and enjoy the multitude of special programs, activities and celebrations planned through our Community Services Department.
