County Lobbyist Briefs Council On Legislative Session

Despite Gov. Susana Martinez vetoing Senate Bill 17, Los Alamos County Lobbyist Scott Scanland shares some good news during his briefing Tuesday night to Council. He reported the latest legislative session produced a positive budget, adding that the state put almost 10 percent in reserves. Regarding Senate Bill 17, which would have stabilized gross receipts tax revenues received from prime contractors at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories, Scanland said, ‘Frankly, I have just concluded Ronald Reagan could have called Teddy Roosevelt … (and the) bill was going to be vetoed.’ He added the effort to get the bill passed was wonderful. ‘The effort we did this year … was one of the best efforts I’ve seen,’ Scanland said. ‘I don’t think I’d change anything.’  Photo by Kirsten Laskey/ladailypost.com
