The Los Alamos County Council this evening appointed Bill McKerley to the position of Probate Judge.
Current Probate Judge Christine Chandler is set to resign her position effective Feb. 20, 2016 and the Council has the responsibility of appointing a qualified individual to fill the unexpired term.
Four residents submitted letters expressing interest in the position including:
- Bill McKerley;
- Anne Nobile;
- Michael Redondo; and
- Helen Jody Shepard.
Council asked each applicant to provide a brief introduction and summary of their experience and interest as it applies to the position of Probate Judge. Following the presentations, each Council member asked questions of the candidates before casting their vote.
McKerley retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2012 where he served as a Group Leader among other positions. He has lived in the community for 38 years and resides with his wife Jennifer in White Rock.
McKerley will fill Chandler’s unexpired term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2016. He said he also plans to run for the position and agreed to attend a Probate Judge training session Feb. 25-26 in Albuquerque.
