Community Town Hall Regarding Vacant Buildings Jan. 24

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Council Vice Chair Denise Derkacs and Councilors David Izraelevitz and Sean Williams invite community members to participate in a town hall regarding proposed Ordinance 02-323.

The proposed ordinance addresses vacant commercial buildings and their impact on the Los Alamos and White Rock commercial districts.

Scheduled at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, the town hall will be held via Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82417992068.

In support of the Council’s goal to promote economic vitality, the ordinance outlines a process to identify, register, regulate and reduce the number of abandoned structures.

Specifically, it assigns responsibilities to owners of vacant buildings, requires annual registration fees, and provides measures for County officials to enforce the ordinance for non-compliance.

Councilors and County staff would like to engage the public in discussion at the town hall ahead of the Feb. 1 Council meeting, at which time Councilors will consider whether to adopt the ordinance.
