Los Alamos County Council tentatively approved 7-0 the $41,758,175 budget for the Public Works Department during its Tuesday night budget hearing. The proposed budget included add-on items, which are $2.5 million for a road improvement project on 33rd/34th streets and Arkansas Street, $1,750,000 for bear carts for residences and bear-proof dumpsters in the County and $33,000 for a car for administrative use. Council agreed to move the $1,750,000 for the bear carts and dumpsters into the ‘parking lot’ to be discussed later in the budget hearings.
