Council Honors Los Alamos Police Chief and Officers

Los Alamos County Council recognized and honored Police Chief Wayne Torpy this evening in Council Chambers for his leadership in keeping the community safe and protesters calm and peaceful during the annual Hiroshima demonstration held Sunday in the townsite and Monday at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Torpy gave the credit for the successful outcome of this year’s demonstrations to his Deputy Chief Kevin Purtymun, his police officers, LANL’s security force and state police. Photo by Carol A. Deputy Chief Kevin Purtymun is credited by Police Chief Wayne Torpy this evening for coordinating operations during the recent demonstrations. Torpy also announced that Purtymun is retiring in September following 24 years of service to the community. “This is very difficult for me to accept but Kevin certainly deserves to retire after all of his years of exemplary service,” Torpy told Council.
