County Council Declares Oct. 5 Energy Efficiency Day

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Council issued a proclamation during its regular meeting Tuesday night declaring Oct. 5 Energy Efficiency Day.

County Council Melanee Hand read the proclamation, which states:

WHEREAS: Climate change represents an existential threat to our community and the world, with impacts becoming evident at an accelerating rate; and

WHEREAS: The Los Alamos Resiliency, Energy, and Sustainability Task Force Report, adopted by Los Alamos County Council in February 2022, suggests Los Alamos County start to lead the nation in addressing climate change, and communicates the need to address the coming challenges with the urgency that they demand; and

WHEREAS: Smarter energy use is an important environmental sustainability step for the whole community and will assist the Board of Public Utilities achieve the goal of becoming a carbon neutral electric provider in Los Alamos County by 2040; and

WHEREAS: Energy efficiency makes our homes and workspaces healthier, safer, and more comfortable and cutting energy waste saves U.S. households billions of dollars on their utility bills every year; and

WHEREAS: Los Alamos County dedicates time and resources to promoting electric efficiency through targeted electric conservation programs; and

WHEREAS: The residents of Los Alamos County can continue to contribute to our energy efficiency efforts by learning about and participating in community conservation initiatives and opportunities; and

WHEREAS: Together we can continue to contribute to our sustainability efforts by implementing smarter energy use practices in our daily lives, such as planning long-term for your home or business, following energy-saving tips available at www.lacnm.com/saveenergy, subscribing to the LA Green program, and participating in local government initiatives.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, as part of a nationwide network of energy efficiency groups and partners, I do hereby proclaim the Wednesday, October 5, 2022, as “ENERGY EFFICIENCY DAY” in Los Alamos County and urge citizens to join us in supporting our clean energy goals and moving toward more energy efficiency now and in the future.
